Of course, with the release of Rock Band’s remastering of The Beatles so that you jam along through the groovy times, some of you may wonder how The Beatles have reached legendary status.  From a humble beginning in the 1960s in Liverpool, England, they rose to the rank of stardom across the globe before the release of “I want to hold your hand” in 1963.  Was it the hair?  The clothes?  The thoughts of Lucy in the sky with diamonds?

Some recaps for those who do not remember your history lessons!

  • Cultural revolution of the 1960s
  • Bay of Pigs and missile crisis
  • Formation of Peace Corps
  • The Vietnam War
  • Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Neil Armstrong walks on the moon

Maybe it was the message(s) within the music that meant so much to the emerging adults and teens of the time.  For some, it may have energized and brought new momentum for change.  For others, it may have meant personal sanctuary within a time of turmoil.  The combined forces of The Beatles’s talent and the world events (think Nature and Nurture coming into play) may have propelled them to their kingly ranks in music.  Who didn’t get a trip from watching The Yellow Submarine cartoon?  Whatever it was, we get to jam it out ourselves and try to catch a sliver of what it felt like to be one of The Beatles.

Maybe I’ll be able to look back and think of all the times my parents played “Hey Jude” and “In my life”… maybe when I’m 64.
